" Those who wish to pet
and baby wild animals
"love" them. But those
who respect their
natures and wish to let
them live normal lives,
love them more."

Aardvark's Florida Kayak Company

Serving all of Central Florida
Have Kayaks, Will Travel
Aardvark's Florida Kayak Company is a professional  paddle sport outfitter  providing  kayak
and SUP tours and instruction.  We offer guided trips on most of the paddle sport venues in
Central Florida including the Crystal,Chassahowitzka, Withlacoochee and Rainbow Rivers as
well as the inshore waters of Crystal Bay on the Gulf of Mexico. In addition to generalized eco-
tours, we also offer specialty trips for manatee observation, birding, and, dolphin watching.  We
also service the Citrus segment of the Florida Saltwater Circumnavigation Trail, providing
provisioning and guide services.

Matthew A. Clemons is the owner of the Aardvark's Florida Kayak Company. He also serves
as Director of Eco-Heritage Tours.  Susan E. Clemons is co-owner and serves as Director of
Operations. There are only two of us, so we  both wear a lot of other hats as well.

A paddler at heart, with a deep love of all things wild, Matt has spent his life protecting
Florida's environment.  After receiving degrees in Marine Science and Wildlife Biology and
spending a 17 year career serving with several State of Florida conservation agencies, Matt has
rejoined the private sector with the formation of Aardvark's Florida Kayak Company. Matt
personally leads as many of our Eco-Heritage tours as possible and is an ACA certified SUP
Instructor and holds a Coastal Kayak Guide endorsement.

Matt has and continues to serve as a board member of Save the Manatee Club. He has also
been presented with a Manatee Hero award by SMC for his long standing advocacy for the
manatee. Matt also serves on the Board of Directors of the Gulf Archaeological Research
Institute (GARI).

Matt has a degree in Wildlife Conservation from the University of Florida. While at UF, Matt
was employed by the Florida Co-Operative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit. He worked on
sport fishery research projects in North Central Florida and the Everglades and manatee
studies in Southwest Florida.

He has also served with the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI ) now a part of FWCC)
as a manatee biologist *, served on the Citrus County EcoTourism Committee and sat on the
Manatee Advisory Committee of Citrus County. He is a certified Eco-Heritage Guide and
instructed a portion of the University of North Florida's Eco-Heritage Guide Certification
Program entitled "Environmental Ethics and Sustainability". He now runs ecotours including
manatee observation programs.

We have literally written the book on kayaking in Citrus County. Matt has co-authored a guide
book to paddling Citrus County entitled:

Finding the Treasures of the Trails, Paddling Citrus County

Susan has an equal love and respect of wild animals and Florida's environment. She has spent
most of her adult life protecting and interpreting Florida's irreplaceable natural and cultural
resources as a Florida Park Service Ranger.  Susan was one of the first female state park
rangers and taught advanced interpretation at ranger academy.

Susan spent 32 years (her entire career) headquartered at the Crystal River Archaeological
State Park.  She was also responsible for programs at the Yulee Sugar Mill State Park.  Before
her retirement, she was the longest serving employee at the Park and has accumulated extensive
knowledge of Florida's pre-columbian culture.

If you're looking for something different, you're in the right place.  We offer guided tours led by
a professional  paddler and biologist.  We offer something for every level of experience.

Our tours come from a somewhat different perspective in that the trip leader has actual
research experience with manatees and 15 years field experience in wildlife management and
biology in the area where we will be paddling.  As a preserve manager, Matt has a true
understanding of eco-tourism and its potential impacts.  Susan has spent 30 years as a Florida
Park Ranger and in addition to being a professional paddler, has extensive experience in
interpretation of Florida's Ecology and Heritage.

We understand that true Eco-Tourism revolves around small groups and features minimal
intrusion and a leave no trace ethic.  That's what you'll find at Aardvark's Florida Kayak
Company.  In keeping with our philosophy of quality over quantity, we tour only small groups
and go out of our way to avoid the crowds. We have been professional  paddle sport outfitters
for nearly 20 years.
