Cooter and Hare Race

Aardvark's Florida Kayak Company, Inc. presents:

The Great American Cooter Festival 2008 Kayak & Canoe Race

The 3rd Annual Cooter and Hare Kayak Race will take place on Saturday,
October 25th at 1:00 p.m. at Wallace Brooks Park in Inverness.

Rules & Race Description

This is a "shot gun" start 1/2 mile barrel/slalom type race. There will be 3 classes
of kayaks each with its own heat. This is an amateur only race. No one
commercially affiliated with any paddlesport business is eligible to participate.

By request, the old Cooter Class is now the OLD Coot(er) Class.This class is
open to any craft powered solely by paddle power (oars or paddles only). Pedal
boats may be raced in class, but no pedal power may be used. Participants must
be 60 years of age or older and no boat deemed by the judges to have been built
specifically for racing is eligible in this class.

The Hare Class is any craft powered solely by paddle power (oars or paddles
only). Pedal boats may be raced in class, but no pedal power may be used. This
class is open to any age.

This year we will also have a "Pro" Class for surf skis, outriggers, shells, racing
kayaks and racing canoes.

To finish off the festivities, we'll have a challenge race between the winners of the
Classes and the winner of the ROCCS Single Shell Class

Participants may enter only one class. A limited number of rental kayaks are available
through Aardvark's by prior reservation.

Race Course

The race will be a ~1/2 mile flatwater barrel (buoy) race with an emphasis on
speed and maneuverability.
